Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir is attending a two-day summit in Lithuania, which began today. The meeting of the Council of the Baltic Sea States is being held in the city of Vilnius. This time the issue of the strengthening of internal cooperation, particularly in the matters of the economy and energy supply, will be on the agenda. The next steps in the Council’s battle against organised crime and human trafficking are also expected to be discussed.
The member states of the Council are Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Poland. A place on the council is also held by a representative of the EU.
