The lack of posts over the last few days can be explained by the fact that I’ve been travelling in East Iceland, dipping in and out of fjords and checking out some of Iceland’s most superlative natural features: the Jökulsárlón glacial lake; Hallormsstaður, Iceland’s largest forest; the Hengifoss waterfall and the quaint and remote little fjord towns of Neskaupsstaður, Eskifjörður and Reyðarfjörður.

It’s a region of Iceland I’ve not visited until now, and it offers a much more diverse experience of Iceland. Driving there is quite a feat though, and we were presented with such obstacles as extremely sharp bends, high altitudes and snow, fog, rain and all manner of other weather conditions, and a single-lane tunnel with a malfunctioning traffic light.

I’m still recharging my camera and so will be going through my pictures tomorrow and I’ll be sure to upload some here. Normal news service will resume tomorrow.

You may have noticed some activity on this otherwise dead blog for the first time in a while tonight. I would like to apologise for the silence over the past year. Keeping up with the blog took a bit more time than I would have hoped for a year ago, however I hope that my mad Icelandic skills have improved enough over the last year to make translating from the Icelandic media a little less time-consuming.

This is just a one-man operation, folks, so please be patient if there aren’t hundreds of new articles appearing every day! I do however intend to update this blog far more regularly than I have been doing over the past wee while — do stick around and see how things develop!

Well as we’re quite an enterprising bunch here at the Enquirer, we thought we’d give you another way to stay up-to-date with the stories we publish by opening a Twitter account. Apologies for the sparse updates over the last few days. I, the main writer of this blog, have been in transit to Iceland. I am currently staying somewhere without an Internet connection, so it has taken a little while to get up and running with an Internet dongle.

As I am here in Iceland, however, it should mean that the blog posts will be based on a wider range of sources, such as the free Fréttablaðið paper delivered to every Icelandic household. My co-writer Tom will be joining me in July, so expect better posts over the next couple of months.

All that’s left to say is if you’re not already in Iceland, hop on the next plane and join us in the heitur pottur!
